A Hospice & Rehabilitation Center for the Homeless on the Caelian Hill

This project began with a public park design for the Caelian Hill. Within that park, we then had to design a hospice and rehabilitation center for the homeless. The program included a large kitchen and refectory for group dining, administrative offices, bathing rooms, a barber, laundry, etc. There was also a need for herb gardens and an orangery so that the homeless could harvest and sell the products. We thoroughly studied Italian villa and garden designs as adaptable typologies. However, it was crucial to balance respecting the dignity of the hospice residents, while also not overdecorating the building with ornamentation like you typically would for an Italian villa. In this way, it was very challenging but very exciting to design altruistically.
I also really enjoyed testing out graphite and colored pencils on toned paper for these renderings!
